Amazon presented an enormous amount of new Echo devices, from glasses with integrated loudspeakers to a ring with the integrated voice assistant. Along with them, has the Amazon Echo Studio, a new loudspeaker of higher quality than those already known by the brand and here we compare with one of its main rivals: the Apple HomePod.
Design and dimensions
The Amazon Echo Studio smart speaker continues, to a certain extent, with the design lines already defined in his younger siblings: cylindrical shape and covered with a fabric mesh, although apparently more robust. However, it has a substantially larger size, namely 17.5 cm high, 20 wide and a weight of about 3.5 kg. It has the respective control buttons on the top and, as is customary, it has an LED that will light up so you know Alexa is listening to you.
For its part, the Apple HomePod has a plastic case, and a slightly smaller size, with slightly less height, width and weight. It also has an LED on the top that will enable us to talk to Siri. However, the apple product does not have physical buttons.
Sound and technical specifications
With 330 W of power, Amazon Echo Studio features three midrange speakers, one treble and one woofer to maximize bass. In addition, Amazon’s new Smart Speaker features Dolby Atmos technology and, of course, 802.11 WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Apple HomePod, for its part, consists of a powerful subwoofer and seven treble speakers. Like the Amazon product, the HomePod has WiFi 802.11 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, as well as a frequency of 50 to 60 Hz.
Thanks to the Dolby Atmos technology already commented, the new intelligent speaker of Amazon is able to study the environment in which it is and to modify, thus, the reproduced audio to optimize it to the room. Although the Apple HomePod already had this capacity, the Echo Studio ensures better results. In addition, it is compatible with the new HD music technology of the North American brand.
Both are obviously capable of interacting with Siri and Alexa, respectively; and performing day-to-day functions such as playing music, giving information about the weather or the most important news; as well as being able to control the external devices compatible with them. In this sense, few differences between the two loudspeakers. The scale will tilt to the side of the voice assistant of your choice.
Availability and price
And it’s here, as it often happens with devices that are compared to Apple products, that the good comes. The Amazon Echo Studio will be available for pre-order, and will be available from November 7 at a price of $199.99. This price, as you can imagine, contrasts with the $329 that the Apple HomePod is worth on the brand’s official website.
What do we conclude? It is certain that Amazon Echo Studio is positioned as a tough rival for the Apple HomePod, with comparable features and whose main purchasing factor will probably be its price.
